Pune gets very hot from March to May. At the same time, Shimla and Manali are cool and fresh. That is why many families from Pune plan this trip in the summer holidays.
Getting there is easy. You can fly from Pune to Chandigarh in a little over 2 hours. Our driver waits for you at the airport. From there, you do not need to plan anything.
This trip gives you two very different hill towns. Shimla is old and full of British-era buildings. Manali is wild, with snow, rivers and adventure sports. You see both in one holiday.
The weather in the hills can change fast. If a road is closed, your driver will simply swap the days around.
You can take a direct flight from Pune to Chandigarh. It takes about 2 hours 20 minutes. Book your ticket to Chandigarh, because the trip starts and ends there. Flights from Pune to Delhi take about 2 hours and fly all day, so you can also use our Delhi pickup.
There is no train to Manali. The fastest train from Pune to Delhi takes about 20 hours, and most trains take longer. Then Chandigarh is 4 more hours. Flying saves you about two days in total.

💡 Pick a flight that lands in Chandigarh by 1 pm. Then you reach Shimla the same evening. If you land late, we book one night in Chandigarh first.
We can pick you up and drop you in Delhi for ₹15,450 per person (GST extra). The first and last days are longer. Delhi to Shimla is about 350 km (8–9 hours). Manali to Delhi is about 540 km (12–13 hours).

Book your flight home for the evening of Day 6. In winter, the next morning is safer, because snow can slow the roads.
In Shimla, you see the Ridge, Mall Road, Jakhu Temple and Kufri. In Manali, you see Hadimba Temple, Vashisht, Old Manali, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel. You can add Rohtang Pass with a permit.
A big open square at the top of Shimla, with a yellow church built in 1857. Mall Road next to it has shops, bakeries and old British buildings. Cars are not allowed, so you walk.
A small hill town 16 km from Shimla. Ride a pony up to Mahasu Peak for big mountain views. In winter, the slopes are covered in snow.
A Hanuman temple on the highest hill in Shimla. It has a huge 108 ft Hanuman statue that you can see from far away. Keep your bags safe from the monkeys!
A wooden temple from 1553, hidden in a forest of tall pine trees. It is for Hidimba, the wife of Bhima from the Mahabharata.
The fun and adventure spot of Manali, 14 km from town. In summer, try paragliding and the cable car. In winter, play in the snow or try skiing.
A 9 km tunnel through the mountain. On the other side is Sissu, a quiet valley with a waterfall, a river and snowy peaks all around.

All yearApril to June is the best time for most Pune families. Pune is hot then, but Shimla is 15 to 28°C and Manali is 10 to 25°C. Schools are also closed. October is clear and sunny, near the Diwali break. For snow, go from mid-December to February. Do not go from July to September. Heavy rain can block the roads.

The Shimla to Manali drive is long, and Solang gets crowded by late morning. So we leave by 8 am.
Snow or heavy rain can close a road. Stay relaxed. Your driver will change the order of the days.
Hill roads have lots of bends. Carry tablets for travel sickness and drink plenty of water.

It is about 1,750 km. That is two long days of driving. So most people fly to Chandigarh. From there, Shimla is only 115 km.
April to June is the most popular time, because Pune is hot and schools are closed. October is also nice. Go from mid-December to February if you want snow. Do not go from July to September.
Maharashtrian food is hard to find in the hills. But North Indian veg food is easy to get everywhere. Tell us about Jain food when you book, and we choose hotels that can make it.
No. There are only two long drive days. On the other days, you stay in the same hotel and come back in the evening. We can also add a rest day if you want.
Rohtang is not in the plan, because it needs a government permit. It is usually open from late May to October. We can take you there in place of the tunnel day, if a permit is free. It costs extra.
Breakfast is included every morning from Day 2 to Day 6. Lunch and dinner are not included. This lets you try the cafés and restaurants on Mall Road and in Old Manali.
