In Chennai, it is warm or hot almost every day of the year. In Shimla and Manali, you can feel real cold, and in winter you can see snow fall. For many people from Chennai, this is their first time in the snow.
You can fly from Chennai to Chandigarh in about 3 hours on most days. Or you can fly to Delhi, which has many more flights. We can pick you up from either city.
The trip is slow and easy. There are two nights in Shimla and three in Manali. You will not feel rushed, even with kids or older parents.
The weather in the hills can change fast. If a road is closed, your driver will simply swap the days around.
Chennai has direct flights to Chandigarh on most days. They take about 3 hours. Book your ticket to Chandigarh, because the trip starts and ends there. Flights from Chennai to Delhi take about 2 hours 45 minutes and leave every hour or so, so you can also use our Delhi pickup.
There is no train to Manali. Trains like the Tamil Nadu Express take about 32 to 36 hours to reach Delhi. Then Chandigarh is 4 more hours. For a 6-day trip, flying is the only easy way.

💡 Pick a flight that lands in Chandigarh by 1 pm. Then you reach Shimla the same evening. If you land late, we book one night in Chandigarh first.
We can pick you up and drop you in Delhi for ₹15,450 per person (GST extra). The first and last days are longer. Delhi to Shimla is about 350 km (8–9 hours). Manali to Delhi is about 540 km (12–13 hours).

In Shimla, you see the Ridge, Mall Road, Jakhu Temple and Kufri. In Manali, you see Hadimba Temple, Vashisht, Old Manali, Solang Valley and the Atal Tunnel. You can add Rohtang Pass with a permit.
A big open square at the top of Shimla, with a yellow church built in 1857. Mall Road next to it has shops, bakeries and old British buildings. Cars are not allowed, so you walk.
A small hill town 16 km from Shimla. Ride a pony up to Mahasu Peak for big mountain views. In winter, the slopes are covered in snow.
A Hanuman temple on the highest hill in Shimla. It has a huge 108 ft Hanuman statue that you can see from far away. Keep your bags safe from the monkeys!
A wooden temple from 1553, hidden in a forest of tall pine trees. It is for Hidimba, the wife of Bhima from the Mahabharata.
The fun and adventure spot of Manali, 14 km from town. In summer, try paragliding and the cable car. In winter, play in the snow or try skiing.
A 9 km tunnel through the mountain. On the other side is Sissu, a quiet valley with a waterfall, a river and snowy peaks all around.

All yearApril to June is a great time to go from Chennai. Chennai is very hot then, but Shimla is only 15 to 28°C. Schools are also closed. For snow, go from mid-December to February. This fits well with the Christmas or Pongal holidays. October and November are clear and quiet. Do not go from July to September. Heavy rain can block the roads.

Even in May, Manali nights can drop to about 8 to 10°C. In winter it goes below zero. Carry thermals, a thick jacket, gloves and a cap. You can rent snow boots and snow suits at Kufri and Solang.
The Indian Coffee House on Mall Road in Shimla serves dosa and coffee. Hotels mostly cook North Indian food. Tell us if you want idli or upma for breakfast, and we will ask the hotel.
Only a few cars get a permit each day. Tell us when you book if you want to go.
The Shimla to Manali drive is long, and Solang gets crowded by late morning. So we leave by 8 am.
Snow or heavy rain can close a road. Stay relaxed. Your driver will change the order of the days.
Hill roads have lots of bends. Carry tablets for travel sickness and drink plenty of water.

It is about 2,500 km. That is three to four days of driving. So almost everyone flies to Chandigarh or Delhi and starts the cab trip there.
April to June is the most comfortable, because Chennai is very hot and schools are closed. For snow, go from mid-December to February. Do not go from July to September, because of heavy rain.
Pack thermal inner wear, a thick jacket, woollen socks, gloves, a cap and shoes with a good grip. In winter, you can rent snow boots and suits at Kufri and Solang. Also carry lip balm and cold cream, because the air is dry.
No. There are only two long drive days. On the other days, you stay in the same hotel and come back in the evening. We can also add a rest day if you want.
Rohtang is not in the plan, because it needs a government permit. It is usually open from late May to October. We can take you there in place of the tunnel day, if a permit is free. It costs extra.
Breakfast is included every morning from Day 2 to Day 6. Lunch and dinner are not included. This lets you try the cafés and restaurants on Mall Road and in Old Manali.
