Bhagsu Waterfall is one of the most loved spots near McLeod Ganj. It is a short walk, about 20-30 minutes, from the main McLeod Ganj market. The path is easy for most people, though the last stretch is a bit rocky and uphill. The waterfall is not very tall, but it has a nice, cool pool at the bottom where many visitors dip their feet or take a quick bath in summer.

Right next to the waterfall is the Bhagsu Nag Temple, an old Shiva temple with a natural water source. Many people visit both places together, since they are so close. Around the waterfall, you will find small dhabas and cafes selling tea, Maggi, and momos, so it is a good stop for a quick snack.

The best time to visit is early morning or late afternoon, when it is less crowded. In monsoon, the water flow is strong, so caution is needed near the rocks. In winter, the flow reduces but the surroundings look calm and green.

The Dalai Lama Temple, also known as Tsuglagkhang, is the most important religious site in McLeod Ganj. It is part of a larger complex that also houses the residence of the 14th Dalai Lama, so it holds deep spiritual value for Tibetan Buddhists and visitors from across the world.

Inside the temple, you will find large statues of Buddha, Avalokiteshvara, and Padmasambhava, all beautifully decorated. The walls are lined with Tibetan Buddhist art, and the atmosphere is calm and quiet, with the smell of incense in the air. Monks often walk around the complex, some in deep prayer, some spinning prayer wheels along the outer path.

A peaceful ritual here is the kora, a walking path around the temple where pilgrims and visitors walk clockwise while turning the prayer wheels. It takes about 15-20 minutes and gives good views of the valley below.

The temple complex also has a small museum that shows the history of Tibet and the Dalai Lama's journey to India. Entry is free, but visitors should dress modestly and keep their voice low.

Namgyal Monastery sits within the same complex as the Dalai Lama Temple and is the personal monastery of the Dalai Lama himself. It was originally founded in Tibet in the 16th century and was re-established in Dharamshala after the Dalai Lama came to India.

The monastery is home to monks who study Buddhist philosophy, rituals, and scriptures. Visitors often see young monks in maroon robes walking through the courtyards or sitting together for debate practice, which is a lively and interesting sight. These debates involve hand clapping and quick questions, and watching them is a unique experience for travellers.

The building itself is colourful, with traditional Tibetan architecture, prayer flags, and murals depicting Buddhist stories. Inside, you can see prayer halls with butter lamps and detailed thangka paintings.

Namgyal Monastery is not just a tourist spot, it is an active learning centre for monks, so visitors are expected to stay respectful and quiet, especially during prayer or study time.

Photography is usually allowed in the outer areas, but visitors should check before taking pictures inside the prayer halls. A visit here pairs naturally with the Dalai Lama Temple, since both are part of the same peaceful complex.
