Yes, if seats are free. The toy train runs from Kalka, near Chandigarh, up to Shimla. It is slow, about 5 to 6 hours, but very pretty.

Yes. Shimla and Manali are the night stays, and you pass through the Kullu valley on the way. You can stop for rafting or shawl shopping in Kullu.
