About Manikaran Tour Package

Manikaran is a small pilgrim town in the Parvati Valley of Himachal Pradesh, about 3 hours from Manali and close to Kasol. It sits at the edge of the Parvati River, with steam rising from natural hot water springs right next to the river's cold, fast current.

The town is sacred to both Hindus and Sikhs. The Manikaran Gurudwara and nearby temples draw pilgrims, while the hot springs are believed to have healing properties. Langar (free community meal) is served here every day.

Manikaran works well for pilgrims, backpackers, and families who want a calm, low-key hill trip. It also acts as the last road-connected point before the Kheerganga trek, so trekkers pass through here too.

This package is built around that mix — a relaxed base in the valley, a soak in the springs, a Gurudwara visit, and easy day trips to Kasol and Manikaran's surrounding villages.

Where to go

Best Places to Visit in Manikaran

Hill stations, valleys and pilgrimage towns — a short guide to what each one actually offers, so you can pick the right combination for your trip.

Hot spring steam over the Parvati River below Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib

Manikaran Gurudwara Sahib

This is the heart of Manikaran and a major Sikh pilgrimage site. The Gurudwara sits right beside the Parvati River, and its kitchen uses the natural hot springs to cook langar and boil rice, which is then served free to every visitor, day and night. The prayer hall is calm and welcoming to people of all faiths, not just Sikhs. Many travellers come here just to sit by the river, listen to the shabad kirtan, and eat a warm meal. There are also separate hot spring bathing tanks for men and women inside the Gurudwara complex, open to all pilgrims.

Steam rising from a hot spring pool at Manikaran

Hot Springs

The natural hot water springs are Manikaran's biggest draw, and they sit just steps away from the icy Parvati River. Locals believe the sulphur-rich water has healing powers for skin and joint problems, which is why pilgrims travel from far to take a dip. The water is hot enough to cook rice and dal quickly, and you'll see this used in the Gurudwara and temple kitchens nearby. Separate bathing areas exist for men and women, both inside the Gurudwara and at a few temple complexes. It's an unusual, memorable experience, especially on a cold morning.

Entrance of the Shiva temple and market shops in Manikaran

Shiva Temple

This ancient stone temple stands close to the riverbank, just a short walk from the Gurudwara. Local legend says Goddess Parvati lost an earring (mani) in the water here. When Lord Shiva grew angry, the serpent god Sheshnag hissed and sent up boiling water that threw the jewel back out, which is how the hot springs are said to have formed. The temple has a simple, old-world charm, with carved wooden and stone work typical of Himachali hill architecture. It's usually quiet compared to the Gurudwara, making it a peaceful stop for a short prayer or just to sit and take in the mountain and river view around it.

Good to know

A few tips before you travel

  • Mobile network is patchy in parts of Manikaran; keep offline maps ready.
  • Carry cash, as many small shops and cafes don't accept cards.
  • Pack warm layers even in summer, since evenings get chilly.
  • Cover your head with a scarf when entering the Gurudwara, as per custom.
  • Book hotels early during May-June and December, as rooms fill up fast.
  • Wear quick-dry clothes if you plan to use the hot spring bathing area.
  • Keep some buffer days if you plan to add the Kheerganga trek.
