8 Nights 9 Days Spiti Valley Circuit Tour
This road trip goes in through Kinnaur and comes out through Lahaul, so you never drive the same road twice. The slow climb from Shimla to Kaza also helps your body get used to the altitude.
It is a long trip with basic stays in some places, so it suits travellers who enjoy big mountain drives more than luxury hotels.

Day 2
Shimla → Sangla
Drive via Narkanda and along the Sutlej river into Kinnaur (about 8–9 hours). Overnight stay in Sangla.
Day 3
Chitkul → Kalpa
Morning visit to Chitkul village, then drive to Kalpa for views of the Kinner Kailash range. Overnight stay in Kalpa.
Day 4
Kalpa → Nako → Tabo
Drive through the rocky Kinnaur roads to Nako Lake, then on to Tabo Monastery. Overnight stay in Tabo.
Day 5
Tabo → Dhankar → Kaza
Visit Dhankar Monastery on the way and reach Kaza by afternoon. Rest to adjust to the altitude. Overnight stay in Kaza.
Day 6
Kaza Local Sightseeing
Visit Key Monastery, Kibber village, Chicham Bridge, Hikkim post office and Langza. Overnight stay in Kaza.
Day 7
Kaza → Kunzum Pass → Chandratal
Drive over Kunzum Pass to Chandratal Lake. Evening by the lake. Overnight stay in a camp near Chandratal.
Day 8
Chandratal → Atal Tunnel → Manali
Drive through Batal and Gramphu, cross the Atal Tunnel and reach Manali by evening. Overnight stay in Manali.
Day 9
Manali → Chandigarh
Check out after breakfast and drive back to Chandigarh for drop.

A few tips before you travel
- The Kunzum Pass and Chandratal road usually open only from June to September
- Mobile signal is weak after Kalpa — BSNL and Jio work best in Kaza
- Carry cash, warm layers and basic medicines for the altitude
- Foreign nationals need a permit for parts of Kinnaur and Spiti

Is this trip safe for altitude?
The route goes up slowly from Shimla, which helps you adjust. Rest on the day you reach Kaza and drink plenty of water.
Do Indian travellers need a permit for Spiti?
No. Indian citizens do not need a permit for this route. Foreign nationals need a Protected Area Permit.
Can this trip be done in winter?
Not this full circuit. Kunzum Pass and the Chandratal road close in winter, so a winter Spiti trip goes in and out through Kinnaur only.
